Energy Efficiency Project at 200 Ste-Foy, Quebec (MAPAQ Building)

Discipline and sector of activity:
Mechanical plans - Commercial building

Description

This project, bold to say the least, was carried out as part of an energy efficiency project in a "turnkey" mode implemented by Krome Services. This 400,000 sq. ft. building is fully air-conditioned with 3 roof-mounted air units, coupled with several induction units, allowing for hot water to circulate in the perimeter units for heating. A steam boiler was used to produce the necessary heating water for ventilation and the perimeter.

According to the initial concept developed by Krome Services, we have been able to replace the steam boiler by ... a cooler! Indeed, this variable speed cooler is also designed to operate in heat pump mode at high temperature and produce 100% of the required heating. Steam humidification has also been replaced by am atomization system, all of which eliminates 100% of the natural gas consumption and therefore 100% of the building's GHG emissions, while providing a backup for the 2 existing coolers and by ensuring a better comfort of the occupants through changes of season.
