Cirque du Soleil has called upon our team to assist them in the process of purchasing a new generation of portable HVAC units to ventilate, cool and heat Big Top show tents. Far from being a simple buying process, this process began with a crucial step in defining requirements and analyzing constraints. Our team also calculated heating and air conditioning loads following the analysis of the properties of the fabrics by an external firm. The required airflow has also been carefully studied to limit the stratification and ensure the artists’ comfort at the top of the tent.

These steps led to the creation of a "performance" type specification allowing the circus to bid for custom manufacturing of HVAC units. At the same time, our team has also crafted a tailor-made control sequence for the operation of the unit's internal components (fans and variable speed compressors) and the operation of 8 units simultaneously on the same tent, while maintaining the comfort of the different areas and in very variable sun and weather conditions. Finally, we supported the Cirque team in inspecting the manufacturing of the units at the manufacturer.
